barmark
This is a Lightning Jar package. See the full package page →
barmark is a Markdown-inspired notation for chord charts. It takes the bar-grid convention musicians already write in plain text ("| D | A | Bm | G |") and specifies it precisely: what an empty cell means, how far "x 2" reaches, how repeats, sections, key, meter and tempo are written. A barmark file is a markdown file (.chart.md), so it reads well anywhere markdown does.
It ships as two packages. barmark itself is the parser, canonical printer and Harte-label converter, with no runtime dependencies. @barmark/render renders a chart as an accessible, evenly spaced bar grid, as static HTML or as a web component. We extracted it from Stem Shovel's chart parser and validated its rules in our stem-bench research. The code is MIT licensed; the grammar is a v0.1 draft.
How We Use It
- Writing chord charts in plain text that software can read without guessing
- Parsing charts into bars, sections and chords for playback, alignment or analysis
- Rendering clean, accessible chord-chart grids on web pages with or without JavaScript

Why this matters: Centralizing content and product data shortens time-to-publish, lowers error rates, and keeps every channel consistent. Platforms that centralize product data, digital assets, and content, enabling omnichannel delivery, governance, and a single source of truth across websites, apps, and commerce. Preferred defaults: Pimcore for data-heavy catalogs; Sanity for bespoke editorial workflows; Hygraph for GraphQL-first federation.
